Brick Walls are there for a Reason

Brick Walls are there for a Reason
When things aren’t going quite the way I want, quite the way they had to, quite the way that would make me happy, I turn to solace myself amid inspirational lectures, music and literature, and be revitalized. It is one of those times now, and everything that great people said starts to make sense. May be they are right-when the going gets tough, the tough (should) get(s) going. May be, the brick walls are there for a reason.
Fortunately for me, people have been through tough times, realized what it is like, and overcome it, and thus they inspire in their words, that it is the time to carry on and not quit. This one from an anonymous poet is one of my favorites.
Don’t Quit
When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you are trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

I read it again and again until I feel blessed that people knew I needed to know some day that it’s when things seem worst that you must not quit. What an inspiration.
I know I am not the only one, that every single person is seeking solace, and wandering depressed having found none. This is why I bring this journal.
Another great inspiration to me is Steve Jobs’ graduation lecture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF8uR6Z6KLc). However luring it might seem to us, never has success come the easy way to anyone.
Randy Pausch said it in his lecture a number of times- “The brick walls are there for a reason.” Highly inspired by his lecture on achieving one’s childhood dreams, I was watching it for the 5th time today. In the middle of it, I called one of my friends to ask him if he had watched this lecture on the link that I had given to him last week (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo). Not very surprisingly but unexpectedly, he informed me that Randy Pausch died today. My heartfelt condolences to the family and hats off to the great guy.
Now I know. The brick walls are there for a reason. I should be glad that they are there at times. How else would I learn not to quit??
